 Randy Guerra Pitcher Mark Batten set an NCAA post season record by pitching 15 1/3 innings against The Citadel to lead the Canes to a 3-1 victory in the first round of the Atlantic Regional at Mark Light Stadium !
In the game, UMSHoF member Randy Guerra would set 2 school and an NCAA post season record with 26 putouts in 27 chances ! Guerra's post season putouts record would stand until June 1, 2012 when Michael Williams of Kentucky had 27 putouts in a 21 inning game against Kent State. Also in the game, the aptly named Ron Batter would set a school and then NCAA post season record with 8 at bats. The Canes won the game in the bottom of the 16th inning and would go on to defeat Clemson twice in the regional to move on to the College World Series in Omaha.  UMSHoF member Mike Fiore set a school record with 9 consecutive hits...a streak dating back to May 12th ! Fiore started the streak in the 2nd game of a doubleheader on May 12 against the University of Central Florida, and ended it against South Florida on May 17. In the UCF game, Mike set a school record with 6 hits in a game, going 6 for 6 with 4 runs scored and sevens runs batted in in the Canes 28-5 romp over the Knights. He then started the May 17th game against the Bulls with 3 hits...running the streak to 9 consecutive hits ! The 1985 National Champions won the game 9-0.
