In the game, UMSHoF member Randy Guerra would set 2 school and an NCAA post season record with 26 putouts in 27 chances ! Guerra's post season putouts record would stand until June 1, 2012 when Michael Williams of Kentucky had 27 putouts in a 21 inning game against Kent State.
Also in the game, the aptly named Ron Batter would set a school and then NCAA post season record with 8 at bats. The Canes won the game in the bottom of the 16th inning and would go on to defeat Clemson twice in the regional to move on to the College World Series in Omaha.
