In arguably the greatest comeback in school history, the top ranked Hurricanes scored 17 points in the final 5 minutes and 23 seconds to stun the Michigan Wolverines, 31-30 , in front of 105,834 fans and a national television audience ! 

  Led by UMSHoF member Steve Walsh's 335 yards and 3 touchdowns on 24 of 45 passing, the Canes recovered 2 on sides kicks and took the lead with 43 seconds left on UMSHoF member Carlos Huerta's 29 yard field goal, dashing the 15th ranked Wolverines hopes of the upset, and sending over 100,000 stunned and silent fans home !

  Cleveland Gary had 9 receptions for 162 yards, and 2 touchdowns, including a 49 yard scamper on a 4th and 1 to make the score 30-28.  He added 44 yards on 11 carries and one more touchdown.  UMSHoF member Rob Chudzinski caught 6 passes for 76 yards and 1 touchdown.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  In one of those HYPED games that the television networks so love, the Miami Hurricanes crushed the Houston Cougars and Heisman Trophy candidate David Klingler 40-10 in front of a frenetic Orange Bowl crowd of 71,842 and a national television audience !  

UMSHoF member Gino Torretta outshone the Cougar's QB by passing for 365 yards and 4 touchdowns in the contest !  Torretta tossed two touchdowns each to Lamar Thomas and Kevin Williams, including a 71 yard bomb                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        

Klingler ended the evening 32 of 59, but for only 216 yards.  He was sacked 6 times by the Miami defense that allowed only 287 total yards.  Klingler had passed for 510 yards and NINE touchdowns the week before in a 73-3 romp over Louisiana tech !                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   


The hoped-for classic game never materialized as the Canes streaked to a 30-3 halftime lead...and led 40-3 before Klingler tossed his only touchdown pass...with 3 seconds remaining in the game !  


The two teams combined for 96 passes, 46 of them incomplete...and 31 penalties...that led to the longest game in UM history at 3 hours 54 minutes !

The defending National Champion and #1 ranked Miami Hurricanes went on the road and came away with a 41-16 victory over the 6th ranked Florida Gators before a national television audience and a Ben Hill Griffin Stadium crowd of 85,777 !


Willis McGahee rushed for 204 yards on 24 carries and UMSHoF member Ken Dorsey passed for 4 touchdowns ! Maurice Sikes intercepted 2 passes, including the gamebreaker...as the Gators tried to tighten the game trailing 27-16 late in the 3rd quarter, Sikes intercepted a Rex Grossman pass and returned it 97 yards...the 3rd longest interception return in UM history...to stretch the lead and deflate the hopes of the Gators !

 In one of the greatest comebacks in UM history, the 3rd ranked Hurricanes scored 28 unanswered points to overcome a 23 point deficit in the final 21 minutes to defeat the Florida Gators 38-33 before an Orange Bowl Stadium sellout crowd of 79,932 !  

Quarterback Brock Berlin completed 27 of 41 passes for 340 yards to lead the comeback.  Frank Gore rushed for 127 yards on 24 carries and scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 12 yard run with 1:44 left to play.  The Hurricanes defense intercepted a last second pass to preserve the victory.  

Devin Hester started the fireworks for the evening by returning the opening kickoff 97 yards to ignite the Orange Bowl crowd ! Kevin Beard had 7 receptions for 164 yards and Kellen Winslow had 5 catches for 35 yards.
