inducted 2023 |
One of the finest all-around student- athletes in University of Miami history, Aaron Moser came to Coral Gables already an established track phenom, having been named All-State in the pole vault, as a hurdler, and as a member of the 4x100 relay team. He capped his high school career being named First Team All-State and a Reebok All- American in football and running a leg in the 1996 Olympic Torch Run...not bad for a kid from Bonne Terre, Missouri.
Aaron won three consecutive BIG EAST outdoor decathlon championships in 1998-99-2000. He was a two-time BIG EAST champion in the indoor heptathlon, 1999 and 2000. He was named an All-American in the decathlon by finishing in ninth place at the NCAA Track & Field Championships. Along the way, he lettered three years in football and was named the team’s Special Teams Player of the Year in both 1999 and 2000.
After sitting out the 2001 season with a football-related injury, Moser came back in 2002 and set then-NCAA records in the 60-meter dash in the pentathlon and the 100-meter dash in the decathlon. That year he finished second in the heptathlon at the 2002 USA Men’s Indoor Heptathlon Championships. He still holds school records for most points in the indoor pentathlon (3,643), the indoor heptathlon (5,720) and the outdoor decathlon (7,423), also a BIG EAST record. His pole vault of 5.20 meters (17.06 feet) is tied for second in program history.
Aaron received a Bachelor of Arts in History and Education from the University of Miami. He and his wife, Deepika, have a daughter Marikh. He currently works as Director of Global Dealer Sales for Beaverfit, USA, the leading manufacturer of outdoor fitness equipment. UMSHoF&M member, track coach Mike Ward said, “In the last 60 years, only three student-athletes have been an All-American in the NCAA decathlon and played Division 1 football. This speaks to Aaron’s overall resiliency as an athlete with the special ability to train for 10 track & field events and football simultaneously.”
