Kevin Brown grew up in Southwest Florida and graduated from North Fort Myers High School in 1997. Brown was a three-time All-Conference, two-time All-Area, and second team All-State baseball player for the Red Knights. Kevin was selected as the Rotary Scholar Athlete of the Year as a senior and was inducted into the Lee County Athletic Conference Hall of Fame.
Recruited by numerous Division 1 schools including Clemson, Florida, and Florida State, he chose to play for Coach Jim Morris and the Hurricanes. A four-year starter primarily at first base, Brown helped lead Miami to three College World Series appearances, and National Championships in 1999 and 2001.
One of college baseball’s true power hitters, Kevin ranks near the top of many all- time statistical categories at The U, including career home runs (48 for fourth place), slugging percentage (.637 tied for fifth) and RBI’s (187 tied for seventh). His 22 home runs in 1999 is tied for fourth-most in a single season.
Brown always seemed to save his best performances for the biggest moments. After struggling through injuries as a junior and parts of his senior year, Kevin erupted during postseason play. Against Stetson in the 2001 Regional championship game, he tied a single game postseason record by hitting three home runs and driving in 10 RBI’s. Brown went on to hit seven homers in ‘01 tournament play, including three in the College World Series, leading the Hurricanes to their second title in three years. Kevin was selected to the 2001 All-CWS team, and still holds the CWS record for highest slugging percentage (1.267).
He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration with a minor in finance. Selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 19th round of the 2001 MLB draft, Brown played four years of minor league baseball before retiring. He returned to his hometown of Fort Myers to pursue a career in homebuilding and is currently the Area President for M/I Homes, running their Southwest Florida division. Kevin and Jessica Brown have been married for 17 years, and they have three children, Jordan, Kaylee, and Avery.
