A member of the Miami men’s basketball team from 2011-2013, Shane Larkin made a lasting impact during his two years as a Hurricane. Larkin is one of six All-Americans in program history and is the only Hurricane to be named an All-ACC First Team and ACC All-Defensive Team selection in the same season.
As a freshman, Shane averaged 7.4 points, 2.5 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game, ranking sixth among ACC freshmen in scoring and second in assists. The guard was named to the ACC All-Rookie Team in 2011-12, one of three freshmen in Miami program history to earn the recognition. Returning as a sophomore in 2012-13, Larkin had a breakout season, fueling the Hurricanes to their first ACC regular season and ACC Tournament titles. The Orlando, Fla., native finished the season averaging 14.5 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 47.9 percent from the field and 40.6 percent from 3-point range.
Shane was not only named ACC Player of the Year and the ACC Tournament Most Valuable Player in 2012-13, but he was also tabbed the 2013 Lute Olson National Player of the Year after helping Miami to its first NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen appearance since 1999-2000. He was selected a second-team All-American by the Associated Press, National Association of Basketball Coaches, and ESPN. Following his spectacular season in 2012-13, Larkin was selected in the first round (No. 18 pick overall) of the 2013 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks.
Shane finished his collegiate career averaging 11.2 points, 3.6 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 68 games. He shot 43.8 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from 3-point range while at Miami. Larkin is currently playing professionally in Turkey.
