The University of Miami Lady Canes defeated the North Carolina Lady Tar Heels 86-82 at the Knight Sports Complex on the Coral Gables campus for the FIRST EVER NCAA Tournament victory in school history ! The win was Miami's 30th straight victory, setting a school record and sending the Lady Canes to the NCAA Sweet 16 !
UMSHoF member Coach Fern Labati's Lady Canes lost their first game of the season in overtime, then reeled off THIRTY straight wins, including going undefeated in league play and sweeping the BIG EAST regular season and Tournament Championships, the latter by beating the UConn Huskies 56-47 in the championship game at Stoors, Conn. !
The 1991-1992 Lady Canes were led by UMSHoF members Francis Savage, the BIG EAST Player of the Year, along with Vicki Plowden and Jeannie Hebert-Truax. UMSHoF member Robin Harmony served as an assistant coach.

Gus Meizoso pitched the 9th no-hitter in Miami history, blanking Montclair State 11-2 ! The freshman lefthander from Puerto Rico gave up a pair of unearned runs in the first frame then coasted to the victory over the school from New Jersey. For the evening, Meizoso struck out eight and walked seven, the most walks by a UM pitcher in any of its 11 no-hitters.
