Hurricanes history, the Canes pounded the Tennessee Vols 21-13
in a first round game at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska !
UMSHoF member Coach Jim Morris' squad set school records for most runs(21), hits (20) and runs batted in (19) in a CWS game. The Canes scored 7 runs in the 2nd inning to take an 8-0 lead and cruised to the victory.
Danny Matienza went 4 for 5 with 6 RBI's and 2 home runs ! Kevin Brown added a 3 run homer and Charlton Jimerson also left the yard ! Every Miami starter had at least one hit !
The Canes would sweep through the 2001 CWS scoring 49 runs in 4 games...setting a CWS record for highest scoring average... to claim the Hurricanes 4th National Championship and second in three years !
