UMSHoF member Alex Santos tied a school record by recording EIGHT straight strikeouts against the Florida Gators in Miami's 17-11 victory, in front of 3,115 fans at Mark Light Stadium ! Alex pitched the first 5 innings in the early season game and left with 11 strikeouts !
Santos would go on to one of the finest season's in Hurricanes history, with 15 wins against one lone loss, a 2.54 earned run average with 142 strikeouts in 110 innings, was named a First Team All American and led UMSHoF member Coach Jim Morris' squad to the College World Series for the 5th consecutive season !
Alex tied the record for consecutive strikeouts set first by UMSHoF member Neal Heaton on March 10, 1981 against Indiana State...a game in which "The Heater" set a school record with 23 total K's...and UMSHoF member Joe Grahe's 8 straight K's on March 17, 1989 against the Maine Black Bears !
