The largest crowd ever to see a Miami Hurricanes Baseball game at Mark Light Stadium (now Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field)...8,277 fans...saw the defending National Champion Hurricanes take a 10-7 victory over the Texas Longhorns in the 2nd game of the series that matched the finalists from the 1985 College World Series Championship Game !
The Canes took Game 1 on Friday, 5-3, and clinched the series with the Saturday victory in front of a crowd so large...fans were 4- and 5-deep outside the outfield fence ! Many holes were cut in the outfield screens to let fans get a glimpse of the action. The Coral Gables Fire Marshal closed the gates when the crowd reached the stadium capacity of 6,000...so fans lined the fence outside to watch the two titans of college baseball compete !
Unfortunately, the Sunday game, scheduled for a live ESPN national telecast, was rained out, or the series might have been the biggest series attendance in UM history...with well over 5,000 having attended the Friday night game.
