Erickson to Host UMSHoF/Hurricane Club Golf Tournament
Proceeds benefit the Hurricane Club and the UM Sports Hall of Fame.
To be held on Friday, November 10th of the Notre Dame game week.
Two-time National Championship Coach, UM Sports Hall of Fame member Dennis Erickson, has been tapped to serve as the celebrity host for the 25th Annual UM Sports Hall of Fame Celebrity Golf Tournament to benefit the Hurricane Club, to be held on Friday, November 10th at the luxurious Biltmore Hotel and Golf Course in Coral Gables. It marks Coach Erickson's first return to a UM event since his induction into the UMSHoF in 2005.
"I'm honored to have been asked to serve as the host of this year's Hall of Fame golf tournament, I just hope my game is up to the challenge" said Coach Erickson. "My years at Miami were some of the greatest times in my life...not just the games and the championships...but having the outstanding young men I coached, our fine coaching staff, the support staff and administrators I worked with, and being around the Canes fans, I look forward to seeing them at the tournament and throughout the weekend."
UM Athletic Director Blake James said, "We are excited to once again partner with the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame for our annual golf tournament. With each passing year this event seems to get bigger and better. I encourage everyone who is part of the Hurricanes family to come out and enjoy what promises to be a great day. "
"Once again we are pleased to be partnering up with the Hurricane Club as we celebrate our 25th year of the UM Sports Hall of Fame Celebrity Golf Tournament," said UMSHoF President and Golf Chairperson, Tracy Kerdyk. "We are also thrilled to have two-time National Championship Coach Dennis Erickson as our golf tournament host. Each year this event has grown and we expect this year to be even bigger and better while at the same time raising valuable funds to help UM build the Carol Soffer Football Indoor Practice Facility."
Coach Erickson arrived in Miami in 1989 and led the Hurricanes to their third National Championship in seven seasons with a 33-25 win over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. He repeated the feat by leading Miami to the 1991 Championship with a convincing 22-0 Orange Bowl victory over Nebraska. In his six seasons in Coral Gables, Erickson compiled a 63-9 record for a .875 winning percentage, the highest in school history. His overall college coaching record is 179-96-1 in 23 seasons. He recently retired from coaching.
The event is scheduled for Friday, November 10th, the day before the Miami-Notre Dame football game, and kicks off with registration and lunch, provided by Carolina Ale House, at 11:00 am followed by a 12:30 shotgun start on the 18 holes of the historic Biltmore Golf Course. An awards dinner featuring live and silent auctions, will follow in one of the Biltmore Hotel's ballrooms.
Corporate teams of four golfers (includes tee sign and novelties) are available for $1500, while regular teams of four golfers are $1200. Sponsorships are available. Call Executive Director John Routh at the UM Sports Hall of Fame at 305-284-2775 to inquire about your company becoming a sponsor.
