The University of Miami defeated the Florida State Seminoles 27-24 on a 13 yard touchdown pass from Ken Dorsey to Jeremy Shockey with 46 seconds left...and the missed 49-yard field goal...again...... Wide Right III...by Matt Munyon on the games last play !
Even though the Hurricanes defeated their arch-rival...and went on to finish 11-1...their only defeat...a road loss to Washington in early September...the Noles were given the nod in the BCS Championship game against Oklahoma...which they lost...the Canes would gain some satisfaction in defeating the Gators in the Sugar Bowl, 37-20...and Miami ended #2 in the poles...marking their return to the nation's elite !
In the victory over the 'Noles, Miami's defense was led by All-American Dan Morgan, who had 14 solo and 17 total tackles and had an interception, with a return of 23 yards. Kenny Dorsey was 27 of 47 for 328 yards and 2 TD's and 0 interceptions, breaking Gino Torretta's school record by not having an interception in 163 straight passes.
