Bill Lufler is credited for bringing the University of Miami men's tennis program into the national spotlight. Lufler guided the Hurricane program to a remarkable nine year dual match record of 148-2-1, a 98.7% winning percentage, from 1949 to 1957. His Hurricane teams rolled up consecutive match winning streaks of 58 victories from 1949 to 1952 and 73 victories from 1952 to 1957. Throughout Lufler's UM tenure his Canes were only defeated by Texas, in 1952, and Presbyterian, in 1957 and the only tie came against Houston in 1952. Bill Lufler will be remembered for having the best winning percentage in Hurricane History.
