From his obituary in the Savanah newspaper upon his death in 1999 at age 86...
The Savannah native was considered an all-time great at Benedictine Military School, where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball, receiving an athletic scholarship to University of Miami, Fla. and graduating from there in 1936. He was later named to the university's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1968 and the City of Savannah Athletic Hall of Fame in 1969. He was also selected as an original inductee to the Augusta Sports Hall of Fame. He captained the Miami teams in the first two Orange Bowls and was the number one rated middleweight collegiate boxer in America, retiring undefeated. He coached at Miami Military Academy and at Benedictine before serving in World War II. He was a past Grand Marshal of the Savannah St. Patrick's Day Parade.
Moving to Augusta in 1946, he served as head coach and athletic director at Boys Catholic High and Aquinas High School. Upon his retirement from coaching, her served for 13 years as assistant director of Regional Youth Development Center. He was active for many years in American Legion Baseball and city athletics.
