One of the most impressive running backs in Hurricanes football history, Duke Johnson left his mark on the Miami record books despite playing in just three seasons before declaring for the professional ranks.
The Miami native burst onto the scene during his freshman season in 2012, rushing for a UM freshman-record 947 yards and setting Miami’s single-season record with 892 kick return yards. Johnson ended his career ranked No. 1 in career rushing yards (3,519), tied for No. 1 in career 100-yard games (14), No. 3 in rushing attempts (526), No. 3 in yards per game (127.1) and tied for No. 5 in career rushing touchdowns (26). Johnson saved his best for last at Miami, finishing with 1,652 yards, 10 touchdowns and 242 attempts, earning the ACC’s Brian Piccolo Award, recognizing the top comeback player in the conference. Johnson ended his career as Miami’s all-time leader in all-purpose yards (5,526) and led the Hurricanes in rushing in three consecutive years.
A three-time All-ACC selection, Johnson was selected in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft before embarking on an eight-year NFL career with the Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills.
