Cindy Kessler Miller’s journey at the University of Miami began with a letter penned to women’s athletic director Isabella Hutchinson, asking if she could try out for the team. Not taking up the game until age 15, Miller spent her first season at Miami as a walk-on, continually working to improve and being rewarded by earning a full scholarship as a sophomore.
It was only up from there as Cindy captained the Hurricanes’ golf team in 1976-77 and 1977-78, two of the most remarkable seasons in program history. Coached by Hall of Fame member Norm Parsons, she helped the Hurricanes to back-to-back AIAW national championships in 1977 and 1978 and she earned All-American honors.
Following graduation, Miller won the 1978 New York State Amateur before turning her focus to professional golf. Despite not making it through qualifying school in early 1979, Cindy would not be deterred, and later in 1979, she earned her LPGA Tour card.
Miller would go on to play three seasons on the tour, and competed in five U.S. Women’s Opens.
In 1983, Cindy became an LPGA Professionals member, which turned into a 40-year career teaching thousands of golfers. She was named the LPGA National Teacher of the Year in 2010 and was inducted into the LPGA Professionals Hall of Fame in 2024.
Miller became a “TV star” in 2005 when she appeared on the Golf Channel’s “Big Break III: Ladies Only” season of the popular show. She was 48 at the time and competed on the reality show with nine other golfers in their 20s and 30s, making it to the final three before being eliminated.
Modeling her motto – It’s never too late to take another shot - Cindy is CEO of Cindy Miller Golf, which uses the game of golf as a tool to help individuals and corporations reach their true potential. She and her husband Allen, a PGA Tour Past Champion and Life Member, live and teach golf in Western New York.
